Welcome to my country!! Amy, make sure to try the escargot from the street vendors. I know its sounds gross but trust me its better than any 5 star Parisian Bistro. Also, make sure to buy some traditional Moroccan Caftan's, they last a lifetime. Bets of luck on your journey and make sure to avoid crowds of young children (they pickpocket). health & wealth, Sarah veblenhigh.com

Re: Shopping in Singapore: A Guide for the Mall-Adverse

Oh Lauren, you should have gotten that bag! Singapore gives tax refund to tourists (T&C's apply) for a tax-free shopping experience. There's usually a booth at the airport where you can show your receipts and they'll give you back any taxes paid for goods you've purchased. Just FYI in case you decide to come back and find something you'd like to purchase. :) You can learn more here: http://www.yoursingapore.com/c...

Re: Less is Moore in Vanity Fair‘s Homage to Ingres

I say Moore body, less sheet!

This episode was a roller-coaster of a
ride, but it didn’t feel like an episode that was begging for questions to be
answered, more of why drugs are bad. I started a new work schedule at DISH, and
taking the train home afterwards. Because of this I missed this episode of Mad
Men when it first aired. For me, the best way to catch up on this show is with
DISH Anywhere on my iPad. With it, I have total access to my favorite shows,
and I watch them whenever I want. This helps to make my long train ride home
fun.

Re: DIMPHY-2-CROPPED

Nice look :)

Re: UN Backs Woman Suing Prada for Sexual Harassment

I just signed the petition. The question that comes up in the comments is "how on earth do you raise money to start a line". I'm in the industry and started and funded companies, so I will try to address it here. In order of most common funding sources for brands that exist today:

(1) Significant family/married wealth - some started out already loaded before they went into the biz. This includes Carolina Herrera, Tory Burch, Lauren Santo Domingo's Moda Operandi, Juicy Couture, Jimmy Choo's Tamara Mellon to name a few. I'd say at least 50% fall into this category. It takes money to make money.

(2) Moderate family/friends wealth - another OPM (other people's money) category. Rebecca Minkoff as I understand obtained significant financial support from her brother. This includes home equity lines of credit from family members.

(3) Founder's Hard Earned Wealth - the designer/founder actually has some money, usually saved up the old fashion way, simply by working hard prior to launching his/her fashion brand. Tom Ford is an example. Another includes former law/consulting/finance/banking professionals who saved up significant resournces before launch. They are also viable candidates for investment because they are highly credentialed (top undergrad and graduate school) and have killer business plans. Maiyet is an example - started by a lawyer who was well connected, highly credentialed, and had a killer business plan.

(4) Star Designer attracts funding - the stars coming out of the design schools are usually funded by industry veterans, such as Andren Rosen (invested in Proenza).

(5) If you are not in the above categories, then you will need to struggle and get lucky.

Re: Julianne Moore Hilariously Explains Her ‘Toemageddon’ Moment at Cannes

haha she had botoxed feet!
